- Core Responsibilities
Editors are responsible for:
- Screening new submissions and assigning peer reviewers
- Making final decisions based on reviews
- Ensuring ethical integrity and adherence to journal policies
- Communicating professionally and clearly with authors and reviewers
- Promoting the journal’s reputation and attracting high-quality submissions
- Fair and Unbiased Decision-Making
Editors must:
- Evaluate manuscripts on academic merit alone
- Avoid decisions based on race, gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, or personal bias
- Recuse themselves in cases of conflicts of interest (e.g., close relationships with authors)
- Confidentiality
- Editors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are handled confidentially
- Editorial correspondence, reviewer identities, and decisions are not shared outside the process
- Ethical Oversight
- Editors are responsible for detecting and acting on research misconduct, including:
- Plagiarism
- Data fabrication or falsification
- Authorship disputes
- Allegations of misconduct are investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines
- Handling Complaints
- Editors must address complaints against reviewers, editorial staff, or authors in a transparent and fair manner
- Complaints are escalated to the Editor-in-Chief or the journal’s Ethics Committee if necessary
- Editorial Board Participation
Editors are expected to:
- Attend board meetings (virtual or physical)
- Recommend and mentor potential reviewers and editors
- Promote the journal among professional and academic networks
